It is late October and the Hellenic-Zambian Chamber organizes a Corporate mission to Zambia. ANTAEA Group of Companies is one out of the 21 Companies who participate in this mission. On 20th October the first Hellenic – Zambian Business Forum is a fact. The Zambian Development Agency (ZDA) was one of the participants as well.

ANTAEA CEO visited Zambia with the intention to understand the needs that the Sub-Saharan countries in Africa have in clinical studies and what type of diseases need elimination. HIV and malaria is only a sample out of the long list.

During the meetings and presentations local people showed not only the potentials held but the various problems of health and poverty faced every day. In a land with exotic beauty where the desert and the wild life stand in an extraordinary balance, there are still people who suffer and need support. ANTAEA and Eucalyptus offered food to orphan and homeless children in Lusaka.

The action began in the evening with a local driver who drove in different neighborhoods in Lusaka. One of the locals explained “The oldest of the group whistles to the homeless and poor children of the neighborhood to gather in order to receive food”. It’s an effective way of communication between the members of each group.

Dimitris Lucas, Chairman of the Board at Hellenic – Zambian Chamber explained that this attempt was to help as many people as possible with a small contribution which was of great significance to them.

The distribution continued in the middle of the night. The result was a lot of food distributed in 3 neighborhoods of Lusaka. Most of the homeless children had lost their parents due to HIV infection. ANTAEA hopes to help in the fight of HIV and the tropical diseases in the future years.

GCP for Every Day Use provides a comprehensive overview of ICH-GCP combined with useful tips and hints to physicians – Investigators and their teams involved in clinical trials.

It is one of series of modular courses developed by ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd. The objective is to provide health care professionals with a sound working knowledge of ICH-GCP Guidelines in order to apply them effectively and efficiently in their research work as well as medical practice. The course GCP for Every Day Use lasts 2 days counting for 18 CPD hours; it is certified by Continuing Professional Development Service in the United Kingdom.

This ICH E6 GCP Investigator Site Training meets the Minimum Criteria for ICH GCP Investigator Site Personnel Training identified by TransCelerate BioPharma as necessary to enable mutual recognition of GCP training among clinical trial sponsors. This means that Investigators and their teams who pass the GCP for Every Day Use course reduce the likelihood of being requested to take additional GCP trainings by individual study sponsors participating in the program, support sponsor companies mutually recognizing GCP training, and may focus on patient recruitment and treatment as well as other study tasks.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. John Roussos, BSc, MSc MedPhys, the Chief Executive Officer of the ANTAEA Group, said: “ANTAEA strongly believes in the value of training as one of the means of continuing professional development and growth. Due to ongoing rapid advances in health care, constant flow of new information and limited physicians’ time, the need for a smart design of training courses is essential. Our goal is to deliver courses grounded in knowledge and experience, visually attractive, interactive and practical so that all course attendees may readily apply what they have learned. We appreciate that TransCelerate BioPharma has added our course to the list online as self attested by third-party GCP training vendors for meeting the minimum criteria for GCP training.”

In the second part of Mr. Roussos interview in Kalymnos island, the journalist asked how “ANTAEA” was chosen as name of the CRO when established in Greece. John Roussos explained that: “The CRO name origin ANTAEA is from the Orphic Hymns. According to mythology Antaea was a pre-cataclysmic deity who is mother of the 12 Olympian gods and mother of all mortal human beings. In times of starvation and diseases she would appear in the area of Eleusis. She was part of the Eleusinian mysteries. In other areas of Greece, she was identified with the name of Goddess Rea, Earth.”
The interview continued with questions of the CRO activities. All countries where ANTAEA has local presence were mentioned amongst them the most known ones in Cairo, Egypt and Amman, Jordan. Mr. Roussos underlined that “ANTAEA goal is to expand its activities in all Africa. First steps towards this goal have been taken through negotiations with the government of Sudan.”
The current offices of ANTAEA have provided the CRO coverage in Middle East and North Africa, better known as MENA region. The CRO offices in Greece cover Balkans and Cyprus. ANTAEA’s strategic partnerships, contracted freelancers and IT system allow the CRO to provide high quality clinical services in other countries, as well.

ANTAEA CRO donated a year medical supplies to the fire station at Kalymnos, a small island of Dodecanese complex of islands in Greece. The ANTAEA CEO, John Roussos personally delivered the supplies in Kalymnos. ANTAEA CEO, the Head of Touristic department of Kalymnos and the Deputy Mayor of the island began recently this collaboration, as due to austerity many State Agents in Greece are running out of supplies.

The CRO in Greece has committed to support Greek small islands, with periodic donations according to the seasonal needs. Kalymnos is one of the islands in Greece which ANTAEA will constantly support by covering the needs of the fire vehicles and of the Kalymnos fire department in general. Mr. Roussos explained that ANTAEA, as a CRO, is tightly related with the medical field by conducting research on new medication. Thus, more sensitive and attuned to the medical needs, the Kalymnos community may face. He underlined that frontier islands in Greece shouldn’t be forgotten but supported even with small donations by anyone who can. The Head of Touristic department of Kalymnos and the Deputy Mayor warmly thanked Mr. Roussos for the support provided to the local community.

ANTAEA CRO charity in more isolated areas has always been a main goal of ANTAEA Group these years. This type of actions is part of the CRO responsibility in society. ANTAEA Group will actively support the population in Greece and in any other country where it has presence or access.

ANTAEA Supports Rare Disease Patients and Orphan Drug Development

As a CRO, although involved in all types of clinical trials for highly prevalent therapeutic indications, ANTAEA has been always seeking to support research related to unmet medical needs, especially in the area of rare diseases. Orphan drug development is extremelycostly, thus, the final medicinal products belong to the most expensive ones in the market, resulting in a heavy burden on payers whether patients and their families, health insurance companies and Ministries of Health. Our passion to help these patients and to improve their chances to receive an adequate treatment has led to new initiatives, such as collaboration with Not-for-Profit organizations, Investigators treating rare diseases and patients’ associations.

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with the Rare Disease Foundation, Vancouver, Canada, with the aim to support their activities as well as activities of institutions and researchers the Rare Disease Foundation networks with.

Rare Disease

A rare disease is defined as a condition affecting less than 1 in 2000 people. There are more than 7000 diagnosed rare diseases and many more undiagnosed ones. About 1 in 12 people have a rare disease; this counts for more than 60 million people in Canada, Europe and the USA alone. Most known rare disorders are severe and chronic, many being degenerative and life threatening. Rare diseases are poorly characterized and so diverse that many conditions remain unnamed and people who do not have a specific diagnosis can be denied access to necessary medical support services or misdiagnosed and given a non-fitting treatment.

Mission

Transforming the world of rare disease care through researchers, caregivers, volunteers and families working together to find solutions for children and families affected by rare and undiagnosed diseases.

Response

As part of its Research-Focused Initiatives, the Foundation has developed a Microgrant Program that kick starts research on patient-focused projects for rare, under-studied diseases. As a compliment to research activities, the organization developed Parent Support Initiatives to foster the organization and empower the rare disease community. The Parent2Parent Resource Network is a group of local forums for cross-disease information sharing and social support. The group provides a means of organizing families for mutual support, mentoring and knowledge sharing regardless of their diagnosis. The community can then undertake educational outreach and advocacy issues relevant to a wide spectrum of rare diseases.

ANTAEA aims to contribute with extensive expertise on Project conception, Protocol development, and rare disease clinical trials, consulting, funding applications as well as networking with specialists world-wide. Through diligent work our staff achieved exceptional reputation, increasing business and consequently growing client expectations. Nowadays, ANTAEA offices and local personnel cover Balkans and MENA Region. ANTAEA ensures with strategic partnerships not only local presence but services of the highest quality.

Recently, ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd has joined forces in Strategic Alliance with MedSciNet AB of Stockholm, Sweden, to address the ever increasing needs of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies to outsource their clinical trials to highly skilled partners who offer expertise, experience and advanced management as well as technological solutions at cost effective rates.

While ANTAEA will support MedSciNet AB with its market development strategies in Southeast Europe, North Africa, Middle East and the Gulf Area, MedSciNet AB will provide world class IT solutions and technical expertise to ANTAEA and its customers. Both companies agreed on co-development of models that will maximize effectiveness and efficacy of clinical trials as well as reduce the costs for clients. ANTAEA and MedSciNet AB strongly believe that the interests of both businesses are best served by their joint synergies and collaboration in the global market place.

Professor Magnus Westgren, Chairman of the Board of MedSciNet, comments the agreement: “We are looking forward to this joint project with great potentials for the future of both companies.”

“As a CRO strongly believing in added value of advanced technologies in early decision-making as well as shortening time-to-market in drug development, we welcome this Strategic Alliance as a major step in service improvement for the clients of both our companies”, says John Roussos, MSc MedPhys, CEO of ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd.

The Greek company “ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd.” won the lawsuit against “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd.” and Özdemir Hiçdurmaz for unfair competition, in the Turkish Courts.

“ATLAS Medical Services Ltd” was established in Turkey on 14 January 2005 by “ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd” (60% of shares) and Ms. Betul Ünal (40% of shares). In March 2012, “ANTAEA Medical Services Ltd” (hereinafter referred to as “ANTAEA”) discovered that another company with a name similar to “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd”, called “ATLAS CRO”, was also using the same facilities and phone numbers with “ATLAS Medical Services”. This company (“ATLAS CRO”) was owned by Ms. Betul Ünal and her husband Mr. Ufuk Ünal.

As soon as “ANTAEA” realized that this unknown (to ANTAEA) company had direct access to the facilities of “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd”, immediately decided, for serious legal and real reasons including insurance matters for data protection of patients, to terminate the collaboration with Ms. Betul Ünal and to withdraw its participation from “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd”. The collaboration was formally terminated on 20 April 2012.

Few weeks later both “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd” and one of its Directors Mr. Özdemir Hiçdurmaz announced in Linkedin the termination of “ANTAEA” and “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd” collaboration using reasons which justified unfair competition against “ΑΝΤΑΕΑ”. ANTAEA brought an action against “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd” and Özdemir Hiçdurmaz for unfair competition. The hearing took place in Istanbul on 30.12.2013 and the Court ruled that indeed the statements, which the defendants made on LinkedIn, constitute unfair competition. Also, it was ruled that this decision shall be published in a notice given to a Turkish newspaper, with high circulation and its expenses be covered by the defendant. Defendants reserved the right to appeal to the ruling at a higher court. However, both, namely “ATLAS Medical Services” and Mr. Özdemir Hiçdurmaz, never appealed at a higher court. Thus, the initial Court Decision became final.

On 01 July 2014, “ATLAS Medical Services Ltd” was acquired by a global CRO. The company named “ATLAS CRO” has the same address and phone number with the global CRO in Instabul.

This notification takes place legally in the space of action both above mentioned companies and Mrs. Ms. Betul Ünal due to the above-mentioned decision number 2013/453 of Turkish Justice because our opponent, exactly as above mentioned, violate this court order and they do not publicize it, because this judgment has already become final and because we have unequivocal legal interest.
